Roman Sharonov, assistant to the head coach of Dynamo Moscow, spoke about his role in the coaching staff of Rolan Gusev and his communication with the players.
— This is a very important stage in my career, so I made this decision based on what role they see me in. I did an analysis of the last four matches, in which the team was already led by Roland Alexandrovich, and gave feedback on them.
— What are the main functions you will have in the coaching staff?
— My profile position is a central defender, I know all the details, but at the same time I can tell the strikers because I played against good forwards. There is a relationship here. I will help Roland Alexandrovich to make the team stronger in all elements.
We have three components that we talked about: physical fitness, mentality and tactical training – that is, the understanding of the game by the players, who should equally understand this or that episode. So, we are working on these three components.
— We noticed that you communicate a lot with the players both during and after training sessions. What are these conversations usually about?
— Sometimes about football, sometimes just about life. You need to feel the balance here, because it's important. I was a player myself and I understand what communication with a coach is, so I try to help in general with my experience and knowledge.
— Have you found out who the main rock music lover in the team is?
— I think there are none (laughs). If they are interested, I can open the door to this area for them a little.
Another assistant coach, Yuri Zhirkov, shared his emotions about returning to the team, where he spent two and a half seasons as a player.
— Rolan called me and told me about the offer, and I accepted. I completed my studies, got my license, and if I had turned down such an offer, I would never have forgiven myself. I will be working more with the defenders and wingers.
— How did you feel about returning to the team exactly 10 years later?
— A lot of the massage therapists we worked with back then, the physiotherapist, and the staff are still on the team. Of course, it's always nice to return to a team where you spent over two years.
— You spoke with the young players at the hotel. What did they ask you about?
— They asked about what it was like playing in England, what training was like there, and so on.
