He is considered the best left winger of the Soviet Union in the pre-war years. He was a versatile, tall and physically developed footballer, who had a powerful shot with both feet. He could inspire the team with individual actions.
Outstanding mobility and vision of the field allowed him to supply teammates with balls at any point on the field and at any distance. He skillfully combined and moved the ball forward. In 1939-1940, he was the team captain.
After finishing his playing career, he worked as a coach in various teams throughout the USSR, achieving serious success with them. In 1952, he was part of the coaching staff of the USSR Olympic team, headed by Boris Arkadyev. For many years, he popularized football, wrote articles on football theory for Soviet newspapers.
