Legendary striker of Russian football in the second half of the 1980s and 1990s. Super-scorer, holder of several personal and club records. Fast and sharp, had a good technique for receiving the ball, preferred to act from the depth of the field. Skillfully combined individual and team actions. He had a powerful and accurate kick with both feet and a master of direct free kicks.
He had high speed. With a sharp change of rhythm and direction, he often beat half of the opponent's defense. Had an excellent goal instinct and opened up superbly for passes from his teammates. Finished off team attacks or solo runs with powerful and technical kicks. When losing the ball, he immediately entered the tackle, often winning it back. He was always in the game, so he often scored from rebounds or after unforced turnovers by the opponent.
After Dynamo, he played for quite a long time in the Italian Serie A, including under the legendary Zdenek Zeman at Foggia and Bologna, where he also became the top scorer. He was forced to end his football career in 2001 due to health problems. Then, throughout the 2000s, he worked as a coach for the youth and junior national team of Russia, which in 2006 became the champion of Euro U-17. In the 2010s, he began his career as a club coach (Ufa, Torpedo Moscow, Ararat Yerevan). From 2022 to 2024, he headed Tekstilshchik Ivanovo.
