One of the most prominent center forwards of the early 1970s. He was a real dribbler — he preferred to beat the entire opponent's defense single-handedly with speed and feints and finish his runs with spectacular goals. However, it was at Dynamo that he learned combination play and demonstrated his talent not only as a finisher, but also as an attack creator. He had a hot temper, but always subordinated it to game discipline and the logic of the match.
He was distinguished by his starting spurt, the ability to open up for a pass or beat one-on-one. During the Dynamo period, he dropped lower to move the ball forward through combination play. He stood out for his excellent reading of episodes and making smart decisions. He had a well-placed shot and a sense of goal.
After Dynamo, he moved to Lokomotiv, where he began his football career, and ended his career there in 1979. In 1974, he graduated from the Smolensk Institute of Physical Education, in 1985 - the School of Coaches, after which he began his coaching career in Dynamo. In the 1990s, he worked in the Olympic, youth and national teams of Russia, combining this with work in the weekly "Football" and in the RFU as an assistant for public relations. Since 2006, he has been the chairman of the board of the "Association of Domestic Football Coaches" society, as well as a member of the RFU executive committee.
