One of the most prominent forwards of the USSR in the 1970s and 1980s, the leader of Dynamo. He was distinguished by his unique dribbling, explosive character, and ability to take the game upon himself. He stood out for his speed and dashes, which he combined with intricate feints.

He could single-handedly beat the entire opponent's defense and turn the game in Dynamo's favor, deciding key episodes. He covered the ball with his body perfectly, instantly read game situations, making the right and effective decisions. Periodically performed acrobatic elements, making spectacular jump kicks.

After his football career, he began his coaching career in September 1986, becoming one of the most legendary coaches in Russian football. He led Dynamo in this role in 1991-1993 and 1999-2001, twice winning bronze medals with the white-blues. He led various teams, becoming champions and UEFA Cup winners with them. He also led the national team. Later he has been involved in political activities in various government agencies.
