One of the elite Soviet right wingers. He had an almost limitless set of technical skills, magnificent physical data and, most importantly, football intelligence. He could independently advance the ball on his flank on dribbling or play an intricate combination with partners and deliver the ball to a shot position. He is also the legendary attacker in bandy and ice-hockey, in which he many times became a champion and a record holder.
One of the first wingers who began to practice a sharp change in the rhythm of the game and displacement from the flank to the center. He had such a good technique that he literally left the opponents on the lawn, taking them out of balance. In the team game he was one of the most creative players of that time. He always timely and accurately gave a pass to partners in the final third of the field. He skillfully covered the ball with the body (so that it was impossible to take it without violations of the rules) and accurately shot from both legs, completing solo passages.
Having completed performances on the football field, he continued to perform in bandy. However, this did not prevent him from developing as a football coach. He was a member of the coaching staff of Konstantin Beskov, under whose leadership the USSR team became the finalist of the Euro 1964. After Trofimov finished playing bandy, he began to train teams in this sport, becoming a multiple world champion. In his last years, he headed the Dynamo bandy school.
