Saturday marks the 106th anniversary of the birth of the legendary Dynamo Moscow goalkeeper Alexey Khomich.

Alexey Petrovich was born on March 14, 1920, in southeast Moscow. As a child, he tried almost every sport available, but ultimately settled on football. He joined Dynamo during the Great Patriotic War, making his debut in September 1944.

A year later, he won the USSR championship with the team, after which he toured Great Britain with Dynamo, returning world-famous under the nickname "Tiger." Khomich spent nine years with Dynamo, playing in 173 official matches, winning two USSR championships and four silver medals.

It was Alexey Petrovich who mentored Lev Yashin, who eventually replaced the master of goalkeeping in the white-and-blues' net. After retiring, Khomich became a photojournalist, working at the World Championships, European Championships, and the Olympics.
