Wednesday marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of the famous football player and coach of Dynamo Viktor Dubinin.
Viktor Ivanovich was born in Moscow in September 1901. As a football player, he played as a right and central midfielder for several metropolitan teams, until in 1933 he ended up at Dynamo, after which his entire sporting life was already firmly connected with the blue and white.
Dubinin stood out for his height and physical data, mobility, competent choice of position and a large amount of work in the center of the field. Together with Dynamo, he won two Moscow championships, and in the spring of 1936 he participated in the first USSR championship, which ended with the triumph of our club.
After the autumn championship, Viktor Ivanovich replaced Konstantin Kvashnin as head coach, and the team under his leadership gave an amazing start – 14 matches without defeats with a goal difference of 46:21. This series also included 7 winning matches in the Cup of the country, which brought Dynamo a trophy. In October, the team scored the first and so far the only golden double in the club's history.
It is noteworthy that the winning goal in that decisive match was scored by Mikhail Yakushin — the very man whom Dubinin replaced as head coach of the "White-and-Blues" in May 1950, marking his third stint in the role. After a somewhat rocky start to the season, the team picked up momentum and finished with silver medals, while also reaching the USSR Cup final.
After handing over his duties to Mikhail Semichastny in September 1951, Dubinin worked for the Dynamo society, provided radio and television commentary for football matches, and spent 14 years as a member of the editorial board and a leading columnist for the weeklies Football and Football-Hockey. He passed away in April 1982 and was buried at the Miusskoye Cemetery in Moscow.
