On Sunday, the famous football player of Dynamo Moscow Alexander Makhovikov turns 75 years old.
Alexander Fedorovich was born in Moscow and grew up in the youth team of Dynamo. At the age of 20, he made his debut for the main team, where he spent 13 seasons, two of which he captained. He began his career as a left attacking midfielder but later transitioned to a defensive role, which allowed him to read opposing attackers and effectively join his team's attacks.
Alexander Fyodorovich possessed outstanding technique in both advancing and retaining the ball, and had an excellent left-footed shot. He could easily be called a key player in the initiation and development of Dynamo's attacks.
In total, Makhovikov played 363 official matches for his hometown club (third place in Dynamo history) and holds the record for most appearances in the USSR Cup (48). He won the USSR Cup and the Season Cup with Dynamo in 1977, and the season before that, he became the USSR champion.
He also played every minute of the legendary 1971/72 European Cup Winners' Cup, which Dynamo reached the final. Makhovikov scored the decisive penalty in the semifinal shootout against Dynamo Berlin and the team's second goal in the final against Rangers (2-3).
A month later, he won silver at the European Junior Championship, after which he joined the USSR national team, playing 25 matches and scoring one goal.
Makhovikov finished his career with Kuban Krasnodar, after which he studied at the Higher School of Coaches and played for Dynamo's veterans' teams and the national team.
We congratulate Alexander Fedorovich on his birthday! We wish him good health, success in all his endeavors, and positive emotions from his club's victories!
