Karpin: If we continued playing like in the first half, result could've been better

Dynamo Moscow head coach Valery Karpin answered journalists' questions after the derby with Lokomotiv (3:5).

— After this game, do you think this central defender pairing is stronger than the others available? And do you currently think Andrei Lunev is stronger than Kurban Rasulov?

— Speaking after this game, without taking into account how the game unfolded and how the goals were scored, you might be right. But if you look at who or what caused the second, third, and fourth goals, then you need to draw conclusions. The problem isn't with the central defenders, that's for sure. Individual errors need to be analyzed. Speaking about the game, if you look at it first and then at the scoreboard, something doesn't add up. Especially if you look at the first half, after which the score should have been different. But these are just words; the final score is on the scoreboard.

— You made only two substitutions before the 75th minute. Were you satisfied with the game up to that point?

— Yes, the game was generally satisfactory. Plus, we need to look at who can come on and improve the game, and who isn't quite ready yet.

— Dynamo created a lot of chances in the first half. Why weren't they able to maintain that pace in the second?

— Many factors influence the pace: the pause at halftime, and the second goal conceded had a psychological impact. There are many possible reasons, but it doesn't change the essence. If we had continued playing like that in the second half, the result might have been different. Although even that first-half performance didn't lead to a positive outcome. The opponent also makes adjustments during the game, so we need to analyze this with a fresh mind.

— To what extent is Dynamo structured like your team?

— If we look at the halves, then 50%. The first half was good, the second was not.
