Team status
In the tournament's opening match, the Blue-Whites lost a close game to Zenit St. Petersburg (1-2), conceding twice after corner kicks. Bitello scored our team's only goal, finding the rebound after Konstantin Tyukavin was one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper.
After the game, Rolan Gusev remarked in an interview with Match TV: "There's still a lot of work to do. We conceded some easy goals. It didn't seem like there were any serious chances, but it felt like two penalties. We'll improve by the start of the championship. Sometimes we played poorly in the transition phases."
The Blue-Whites' head coach also said that Baktiyor Zaynutdinov is already participating in some exercises with the team and should soon return to full group training, while newcomer David Ricardo is still gaining his fitness through individual training.

About the opponent
In January, the Red-Blues were very active in the transfer market: they sent Alerrandro, Rodrigo Villagra, and Artem Shumansky on loan, terminated Lionel Verde's loan early, and traded Igor Diveyev to Zenit. In the opposite direction, striker Luciano Gonda, who has already scored twice for his new team, was sent.
The Red-Blues also lured former Lokomotiv captain Dmitry Barinov and acquired talented striker Maxim Voronov, who, at 18, had already scored nine goals for the main squad of Ural Yekaterinburg.
At their first training camp, the Muscovites defeated Akron Tolyatti (3-1) and lost to Dynamo Samarkand (3-4). At the start of the tournament, they played a fiery game against Krasnodar. In the first half, goals from Gondu and Danil Krugovoy gave the Army Men a significant lead, but the Bulls bounced back after the break. CSKA's players didn't miss a single penalty in the shootout, while Vladislav Torop managed to save Danilo Kozlov's shot.
Three players were sent off during the match: Zhubal and Stepan Sadchikov for Krasnodar, and Moises for CSKA. However, the Army Men had to play with a man down for over half an hour, as the tournament regulations allowed for substitutions for players who had received two yellow cards, but not a straight red. This fact also sparked a storm of emotions and a squabble between the two benches.
"This wasn't a friendly; we wanted to win. Neither team has enough yellow and red cards. We needed a referee who could control a match like this, but he lost control. The captains should have been called and the teams calmed down", – Fabio Celestini was clearly dissatisfied with Inal Tanashev’s refereeing.
