Team status
In the second match of the tournament, the blue-and-whites drew with CSKA (1-1), after which they executed the penalty shootout perfectly: Maxim Osipenko, Ivan Sergeev, Viktor Okishor, Gleb Miroshnichenko, and Nicolas Ngamaleu scored, while Andrey Lunev saved one. Osipenko also scored the only goal of regulation time from the penalty spot, which was won by Ulvi Babaev.
"The game was up and down — some things worked, others we didn't play well. We asked our attackers to run behind the defenders more often, but sometimes they lined up and didn't offer themselves. As soon as they did, they would play through balls behind the defenders, leading to attacks. In the second half, the game became a back-and-forth affair — we could have conceded or scored. We still need to work on organizing the game," Rolan Gusev noted after the match.
As for the tournament standings, any team can still finish first. To achieve this, Dynamo needs a victory in regulation time and a win for CSKA against Zenit on penalties.
About the opponent
The league leader is traditionally spending the winter break as quietly as possible, keeping its proven lineup intact. The only loss so far has been the return of Gaëtan Perrin to France, who never quite settled in Russia.
But Krasnodar is finding its reserves. Five of the seven goals scored during the winter training camp so far have been scored by the club's young players, none of whom are even 19 years old. In their first match of the year, the "Bulls" defeated Kazakhstan's Yelimai 2-1 thanks to goals from Kazbek Mukailov, who was remembered by Dynamo fans for his double in the August cup match, and 17-year-old Yefim Burkin.
At the tournament's start, Krasnodar played two different halves against CSKA. After trailing completely in the first 45 minutes, they managed to pull two goals back after the break (scored by Moses Kobnan and another 17-year-old forward, Eldar Guseinov), before losing on penalties. In the second game, they convincingly defeated Zenit 3-0. Moses and Guseinov, along with Artem Khmarin, scored.
"I was pleased with the dedication and discipline, and I liked the teamwork. In the second half, we outperformed our opponents, who didn't make many substitutions. We shouldn't look at the result and get carried away; we're still working on it. The most important thing is that we're satisfied with what happened on the field in both halves," Krasnodar head coach Murad Musaev said after the match.
