Team status

The blue-and-whites played a strong first official match of the year, giving Krylia Sovetov no chance (4-0). Konstantin Tyukavin and Nicolas Ngamaleu each recorded a goal and an assist, Anton Miranchuk scored his debut goal for Dynamo and earned a penalty, and Yaroslav Gladyshev scored his first goal of the season.

Artur Gomez, who hadn't played since last April due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, made a special return to the field. Newcomer David Ricardo was named in the match roster but hasn't made his debut yet.

Roland Gusev will have to make some changes to his winning lineup, as Daniil Fomin and Nicolas Marichal will miss Thursday's match due to a yellow card accumulation.

About the opponent

In the winter, Spartak brought in another foreign coach, who, incidentally, had already worked at the club. Spaniard Juan Carcedo had long been a member of Unai Emery's coaching staff, whose spell at the Moscow club in 2012 proved short and unsuccessful. In 2020, Carcedo began working independently and achieved his greatest success with Cypriot Pafos, winning the league and the Cypriot Cup.

He also made a successful start in Russia, becoming the first Spartak head coach in eight years to win his debut match. Spartak beat Sochi 3-2 away. The red-and-whites played a strong first half, but scored only once – a penalty from Ezequiel Barco. After the break, the hosts equalized with a free kick, but the Muscovites finally prevailed in the end: goals from Marquinhos and Pablo Solari were met only with a converted penalty.

The match was originally scheduled for Sunday, but due to security concerns, it was postponed to Monday, shortening the recovery time before the cup match.

"We, of course, wanted the match to take place as soon as possible. Playing on Sunday would have been ideal, since we have a cup match against Dynamo very soon. But under the circumstances, there was nothing we could do. Now we need to return to Moscow and prepare for the match against Dynamo. We're not looking for any excuses. We're happy we won and took three points," Carcedo said at the press conference.

Solari, who performed brilliantly in Sochi, will definitely be absent on Thursday after receiving two yellow cards in the quarterfinal against Lokomotiv (the Red-Whites won 6-3 on aggregate). He could be replaced by the only winter signing, Vladislav Saus, who moved to the capital from Baltika Kaliningrad. Igor Dmitriev, who was unexpectedly replaced at left back by Roman Zobnin, should also be fit.

History of matches

The teams met 11 times in the Russian Cup draws. So far, the advantage is on the side of the red-whites – 7 wins against 4. The goal difference is 17:14. The top scorers of the confrontation are Alexander Sobolev (4 goals) and Daniil Fomin (2).

This season, the teams have already played twice in the RPL and both times in a draw – 2:2 at VTB Arena and 1:1 in Tushino.
