Team status
The blue-and-whites are returning to their home stadium after picking up four points in two away matches against Akron (3-2) and Pari NN (1-1). In Nizhny Novgorod, Nicolas Marichal scored his fifth goal of the season, capitalizing on Bitello's precise corner (the Brazilian has six assists in the Russian Premier League).
Unfortunately, Rubens is out for the rest of the season with a right ankle injury. His rehabilitation is expected to take approximately eight weeks.
About the opponent
While Dynamo scores a lot of goals in their matches (80 – only Lokomotiv matches have more), Rubin is at the other end of the spectrum (50) – averaging just under one goal scored and just over one goal conceded per game.
In the winter, Frank Artiga, who previously coached Rodina and Khimki, replaced Rashid Rakhimov, who had led the Kazan team for almost three years. To assist him, goalkeeper Alexei Kenyakin and Albanian attacking midfielder Nazmi Gripshi were acquired, and Chilean midfielder Ignacio Saavedra was also loaned from Sochi. The latter two have already become part of the Kazan starting lineup and are looking quite good.
The Spanish coach has already managed to strengthen the defense – conceding only four goals in seven spring matches. Evgeni Staver's clean sheet streak ended only in the final round, having exceeded 420 minutes. Moreover, their home match against Akron was very similar to Dynamo's performance in Nizhny Novgorod.
Kazan had an overwhelming advantage: they opened the scoring after a corner, then allowed their opponents to equalize with a rare counterattack, and gained a numerical advantage after Marat Bokoev's sending-off, but were unable to finish the match. The result was the same 1-1 draw, which extended Rubin's unbeaten streak in the Russian Premier League to six matches (three wins over Krasnodar, Lokomotiv, and Sochi, and three draws).
Kazan's main striker, Mirlind Daku, missed the start of the year, returning only in early April. However, we won't see him on the field on Wednesday due to an accumulation of yellow cards, along with the injured Ugochukwu Iwu and Anton Shvets.
