Dynamo defeated Orenburg (1–0) in a tough match, extending their winning streak to five games—a feat not achieved in 13 and a half years. Viktor Okishor scored the only goal in the 90th minute with a magnificent long-range strike. Andrei Lunyov, returning to goal after a month and a half, kept his 14th clean sheet in his 50th match for Dynamo. Also noteworthy was the debut of Maximiliano Gutiérrez, who played just over 10 minutes.

"He has completed three training sessions with us, and it’s clear he is a quality player who is good on the ball. Now he needs to adapt to our playing principles and intensity. But based on these first few days, I can say he looked great and conducted himself very professionally. I am very happy he has joined our team," said Sandro Schwarz, sharing his thoughts on the Chilean newcomer.

Konstantin Tyukavin will be available to play on Thursday, having served the suspension he received for his sending-off against Spartak.

So far, Rostov has been posting vastly different results across two competitions. While Jonathan Alba’s team is excelling in the Cup — securing three wins with a combined score of 7–0 against CSKA, Lokomotiv, and Akron — their league campaign has been more modest. They have managed only two victories, both against the bottom-placed sides Rodina and Fakel, and currently sit just above the relegation play-off zone.

There is a reason for this: over the summer, the team lost three players who had made the most appearances in the previous RPL season — Ilya Vakhaniya, Kirill Shchetinin, and Egor Golenkov. Additionally, one of the squad's most creative players, Mohammad Mohebi, left for the Croatian league, while Rostov legend Khoren Bayramyan moved to Ural.

Notable new signings include experienced Brazilian defender Igor Nogueira, central midfielders Maksim Mukhin and Yaroslav Mikhailov, and winger Olakunle Olusegun. All of them featured in the recent away match against Spartak, which ended in a crushing 3–0 defeat for the visitors.

"To simply say we were unlucky would be untrue. The result is on the scoreboard—a heavy defeat. The team defended correctly and our pressing was decent, but individual errors cost us. We created chances for the opposition right in front of our own goal. That is something we need to work on. I don't think Spartak’s performance actually warranted three goals," said Rostov head coach Jonathan Alba after the match.

It will be interesting to see if he keeps 18-year-old academy graduate Artyom Petrov in goal; the youngster made a surprise breakthrough into the starting lineup and has already played five matches, keeping two clean sheets in the process (both in the Cup). Rostov will definitely be without captain Konstantin Kuchaev for the match against Dynamo, as he was sent off after receiving two yellow cards. Defender Dmitry Chistyakov and central midfielder Alexey Mironov are on the injury list. On the positive side, Viktor Melekhin — who missed the game against Spartak — has returned to full training, and Daniil Khlusevich, who joined Rostov on transfer deadline day, could make his debut.

Maxim Osipenko has been defending the colors of Rostov for 5.5 years and wore the captain's armband 21 times.

The forward of Rostov Timur Suleymanov made his debut in adult football in the 2019/20 season, when he played 4 matches for Lokomotiv, in which Anton Miranchuk also played.

Andrey Lunev and defender of Rostov Danila Prokhin together played for Zenit for two seasons.

The teams played 65 official matches among themselves: Dynamo has 29 wins, Rostov has 16, and a draw has been recorded 21 times. The goal difference in favor of our team is 100:68.

The best scorers of these matches in the national championships are Alexander Kokorin (6 goals), Dmitry Poloz (6), Dmitry Kirichenko (4), Alexander Maslov (4).

The match will be officiated by Andrey Prokopov along with linesmen Dmitry Safyan and Egor Bolkhovitin. Vladimir Moskalev and Yevgeny Bulanov will be responsible for the Video Assistance to the Referee System (VAR).

The 31-year-old referee from Yaroslavl last season officiated the match of Dynamo against Pari NN (1:1).
