Team status
Dynamo continued their impressive winning streak after the international break, defeating Rubin Kazan away thanks to a first-half own goal (1–0). In doing so, the "White-and-Blues" equaled the club's Russian league record of six consecutive wins and moved to the top of the standings.
"Yes, we’ve moved into first place, but we always focus more on our development, our style, and how we want to play. Now we are preparing for Wednesday's Cup match in Grozny, where we want to put in a quality performance and take another step forward in our development. That is what we are focused on right now," Sandro Schwarz said after the match.
Andrey Lunev recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season and remains the only goalkeeper in the RPL yet to concede a goal. Haitian winger Josué Casimir made his debut in Kazan, playing the final half-hour of the match.
Dmitry Skopintsev will miss Wednesday's game after picking up two yellow cards in the current Cup campaign. The participation of Maksim Osipenko and Luis Chávez is also in doubt, as both returned from international duty with minor issues.
About the opponent
After the match at VTB Arena — which marked the end of the first half of the group stage — Stanislav Cherchesov described his team's performance as unacceptable. Since then, the Grozny-based side has played four Russian Premier League matches, securing only one home victory — a 3–2 win over Dynamo Makhachkala. Before the long break, they also drew 1–1 with Rubin and lost 0–2 to Akron Tolyatti.
Last Sunday, Akhmat played out a goalless draw at home against Baltika Kaliningrad in a match defined more by gritty battles than by attacking flair.
"All our games against Baltika follow the same pattern; last year, we also had a home draw where both teams fought for every inch of the pitch. Naturally, we wanted to win and created a few good chances, just as our opponents had some dangerous forays forward. I think the scoreline reflects the reality of the match. Now we are preparing for the Cup game against Dynamo — that will be a different kind of match," noted Stanislav Cherchesov.
It is likely that one of Akhmat’s key players, Maksim Samorodov, will miss Wednesday’s game; according to Cherchesov, he aggravated a muscle injury while playing for the Kazakhstan national team.
History of matches
In the Russian Cup draws, the teams crossed paths for the first time in the autumn of 2022 at the group stage, when each won a home victory with the same score 2:1 (goals from Dynamo were scored by Fedor Smolov, Yaroslav Gladyshev and Alexander Kutitskiy).
A month ago, the blue and white confidently beat Grozny at VTB Arena with a score of 3:0 thanks to the goals of Ivan Sergeev, Konstantin Tyukavin and Gladyshev.
The judges
Yevgeny Kukulyak will officiate the match along with linesmen Alexei Shiryaev and Nikita Matiescu. Artem Chistyakov and Pavel Shadykhanov will be responsible for the Video Assistance Referee System (VAR).
Last season, the 39-year-old referee from Kaluga served only one match of the blue and whites, in which they drew with Lokomotiv (1:1).
