Before the tournament, Valery Karpin's team warmed up at the Moscow Rodina (3:2) and the Uzbek Sogdiana (3:0) – Nikolai Komlichenko scored two goals, Maxim Osipenko, Konstantin Kuchaev, Mohammad Mohebi and Egor Golenkov scored once each.
But with the start of the Winter Cup, the Rostov team had problems with the attack. In the group, she suffered defeats from CSKA (0:1) and Zenit (1:2), and between these matches she sparred with Lokomotiv (0:2). At the same time, the only goal of Rostov residents in these games was scored by 17-year-old defender Maxim Radchenko.

In attack, of course, it was better in the first half, but we also need to make a discount on the composition of Zenit," Valery Karpin said after the match. – I probably liked the first half performed by Rostov more. But that's not the most important thing right now. We got the right load. God willing, Sako's injury will not be very serious. Otherwise, everything is fine.
As for the composition, so far it has not exactly strengthened. Midfielder Roman Tugarev terminated his contract with the club, defender Yevgeny Chernov went on loan to Baltika, and Uruguayan prop Rodrigo Saravia, who moved to Rostov last summer, refused to come to the training camp, and his fate remains unknown.
The only addition from the outside was the transfer of 18-year-old striker Denis Titov, who played for the youth and youth national teams of Turkmenistan.
