Valery Karpin: "The team is beginning to understand what the coaching staff expects from it"

Valery Karpin commented on the confident victory over 2DROTS in his first match as head coach of the Dynamo.

— Today was your debut in the Moscow Dynamo, albeit in an unofficial match. Nevertheless, there was an almost full stadium, a good atmosphere. How do you like the football holiday? Did it work out?

— Regarding the holiday, it is better to ask the fans whether it was a success or not. The match itself was a success. From the point of view of football, the game turned out to be very informative for me. There were a lot of good moments and a lot of moments that need to be adjusted. There is a lot of information, and that's good! Anyway, we needed this match.

— You spent thirteen days as the head coach of Dynamo. Has the team accepted your ideas during this time? Today you saw something of your own on the football field, what do you convey to the guys?

— Yes, yes, of course. That's why I say that I liked the game from the point of view of the drawing and those moments that we have already started to train, even if not much time has passed. The guys are already trying to fulfill them. There is worse or better, that's another question. Some moments turn out better, some worse, but globally the team understands what they want from it.

— It seemed that today the players who returned from the lease were more charged with the result, in particular, Lepskiy and Lesovoy, who scored the ball. Or are they just episodes in this match where they performed a little better than the others?

— I can definitely say that their goals are just episodes. Lepskiy does not have the task of scoring at all, he has the task of defending well. Scored and scored!

— Nevertheless, the standard has already worked.

— It worked today, it may not work tomorrow. I think it's not worth deluding yourself about this. We looked at what Lepskiy does in defense and how, and not what he does in attack, scoring goals. We watched him work with the ball. These things are more important.

— How do you assess the emotions of the players who played the first match under your leadership? Were they scared or did everyone gather and show everything normally, as you told them?

— Everyone had a good match, well done! Responsible, disciplined! It is clear that there were mistakes. Yes, probably, the guys were a little bit enslaved, because they wanted to do one hundred percent of everything that needed to be done. And this, perhaps, somewhere enslaves, does not let go of the head. On the one hand, it's good because the players took a responsible approach to this match. On the other hand, perhaps they did not show everything they were capable of.

— Did Kurban Rasulov tell you with his game today that he is ready to compete for a place in the starting lineup with Lunev and Leshchuk?

— There was nothing at stake in this game, there was no responsibility for three points. This is the first. It's completely different when you're fighting for points. The responsibility of goalkeepers becomes even greater. Purely technical points are more important here – whether he caught the ball or not, parried the shot or not. There is more psychology in official games.

— Under your leadership, Yaroslav Gladyshev scores in the second match in a row. He bagged four goals for the Russian national team, today he performed more modestly, scoring one goal. Are you satisfied with his performance?

— With his game, in general, yes, like with everyone else's. I would not like to single out someone. If he hadn't scored, I would have been just as happy. It would have been possible to shoot ten centimeters to the left, and the ball would have gone out of the goal. A scored goal is not exactly an indicator of whether a player has played well or not. More important is how Yaroslav worked out and pressed, how he fought. These things will be more important at this stage than scoring a goal.

— If we talk about Gladyshev, then after the match he immediately ran to the locker room. Why did he fly there like that?

— It was necessary to get to the coach for recovery faster, because we are in the training process, and we need to recover after intensive training.

— Is today's match a good training session or is it still a friendly game in which you could look at the strengths and weaknesses of the players?

— This match, since we are not fighting for three points in it, has the status of a very intensive training. We wanted to look at all the moments that interest us in the game with an opponent who does not know what we are going to do. It was important to see how it works here.

— Did you watch the shootout or did you leave the team to Dmitry Kuznetsov?

— No, I went to the locker room and, frankly, I don't know what was going on there.
