Dynamo continued their successful run in the derby against Spartak, securing their first-ever comeback victory over their arch-rivals in the Russian championship (2–1). Yaroslav Gladyshev scored for the second consecutive match, while Arthur netted the winner. Notably, Dynamo played the final 20 minutes a man down following the sending-off of Konstantin Tyukavin, who received the first red card of his career.

On the final day of the transfer window, the squad was bolstered by two wingers: 22-year-old Chilean international Maximiliano Gutiérrez and 24-year-old Haitian international Josué Casimir, who played in the World Cup this summer. Meanwhile, Ulvi Babayev moved to Rubin Kazan on loan.

Orenburg also made some noise before the transfer window closed, announcing the arrival of three new players on September 10: goalkeeper Alexander Degtev and defenders Anton Lukashov and Joao Silva. In total, the club brought in ten new signings. However, Ildar Akhmetzyanov is currently integrating them into the squad gradually; only French defender Maxime Sivis has started every RPL match so far.

Egor Nazarenko, on loan from Dynamo, is also seeing plenty of playing time and looks quite impressive in midfield. Orenburg definitely made a smart move by signing 18-year-old winger Andrey Kasadzhikov from Zenit. He is the team's top scorer early in the season, having already recorded 4 goals and 3 assists across two competitions—often coming off the bench in the second half.

After suffering heavy defeats to Zenit (0–3) and Spartak (1–5) in early August, the team learned from its mistakes and has remained unbeaten in regulation time since. In the league, they have strung together five consecutive draws. Akhmetzyanov’s team opened the scoring in three of those matches but has yet to secure a second league victory.

"If we had converted our penalties and taken our chances, we’d be in the top three. We still have work to do; it’s too early for us to be up there. We need to work on our mentality and self-confidence so we don't let games like this slip away. We have only ourselves to blame for that. If something goes wrong, feel free to criticize the head coach," said Akhmetzyanov after the recent match against Akron (2–2), in which his team conceded two goals in the span of three minutes during the second half.

Another Orenburg midfielder, Dmitry Rybchinsky, along with Anton Miranchuk, played for Lokomotiv for three seasons.

Orenburg goalkeeper Maxim Rudakov in the 2020/21 season was a Rostov player, where Danil Glebov and Maxim Osipenko played at that time.
